A small favor...

...I really just want people who don't have ADHD to stop having opinions about it. Stop talking about it, stop preaching about it, stop blathering on about it. I don't really give a crap about what you have to say about it, and honestly, I'll go out on a limb and declare that most people with ADHD probably don't care either.

I'm tempted to respond to your "opinions" every time I encounter them, in whatever format, but I'm kind of just tired of it. I would start a campaign to deny the existence of people with normal brains (since so many people with normal brains seem to hellbent on talkin' the smack about the rest of us) but...I actually need my energy to cope with the interference of ADHD in my life so, yeah, I've got better things to do.

It'll be easier for everyone if you just stop talking about it, stop presuming that you know everything about something you know nothing about...yeah...do us all a favor. Stop talking. Thanks.

PS: tomorrow I might have more respect for your opinions, since I'm generally into, you know, respecting other people's opinions, even when they're moronic, but right this second my ADHD has over-ridden my "giving a crap" gear, and I seem to be operating at full bore "pops into my head and comes right out on the keyboard" mode. Note to self, don't go post on Facebook right now...

  1. I love you for this post! If I have to hear one more person say that ADD is not real I may lose what is left of my mind. Seriously, how would they like it if I said that they weren't real? Hmm?

I don't know why people have to be so close minded. Just because you can't obviously see that something is different about somebody doesn't mean that it isn't there. You can't see air but its there. Honestly it just gets on my nerves.

I'd like them to live our lives just for one day...

  2. You said it beautifully. Too often people are giving opinions about things they know nothing about. They open their mouths and prove to everyone how ignorant they are.

  3. Thanks Aury and Jeff...I've been thinking about this post since I wrote it and a paraphrase of a quote that I can't remember the source of came to mind (haha, how's that for an ADHD reference...uhhh...I remember something about something but I don't know why, uhhhh...lol...)...something about the oppressed/denied not needing to ask permission to exist. We exist regardless of opinions. We exist regardless of what you call "us". You can call us "rutabega" in order to remove the "ADHD" title that seems to inspire people to comment...we still exist. In fact, maybe we SHOULD call ourselves rutabegas to clean the slate.

ADHD seems to hold a special place in the American imagination...it's accessible, it's the diss du-jour. There are things that people know they "shouldn't" say about things like sexual orientation, or race, so they're not said in polite company. But everyone has an opinion about ADHD. If you could can it you wouldn't be able to sell it because everyone already has one.

So...unless you're a scientist or doctor working to unravel the mystery, or are at least willing to really examine the issue in a useful way...shhhh...thanks. We're listening and "we" think you're a moron.

  4. It's almost like these "moron's" are jealous or something, because ADHD has been taken seriously by more Dr.s,etc..recently,and they(the morons)want to get in on the action.

I just want to say to them:"Take a walk in my shoes for 49 yr.s and then tell me what I am."
